Start the New Year

Start the New Year out by registering for the RPLS Seminar!!

February 12, 2009 is the bi-centennial of the birth of the most famous Illinoisan, Abraham Lincoln. With the bi-centennial of Lincoln’s birth, many programs and activities will be occurring throughout 2009. To celebrate this event, the theme for the RPLS Seminar is Lincoln, Literacy, and Legacy. The seminar will be held on Thursday, March 26th at the Decatur Public Library. There is a rich program lined up for the day. The seminar has speakers focusing on Lincoln and the resources available to Illinois citizens, so that you and your staff will be prepared to answer those many Lincolnian questions.

Other topics at the seminar are a track on wiki’s you should know about, the ever popular Rebecca Caudill 2010, booktalks, Information Literacy, the Director’s Ask Legacies, and much more. Mark your calendars now for March 26th and sign up for the Seminar early bird registration fee of $20. Deadline for early bird registration is February 27th. After that date the fee is $30.

The registering link above takes you directly to the event listing for the Seminar in the Library Learning calendar or L2 as it is known. If you have not registered for an account in L2 this is a perfect time to do so. While registering, sign up for the Seminar and take a look at all of the other events on the calendar. Remember to click on the Library System tag and select Rolling Prairie to see just the events for RPLS, if you have not gone to L2 through the link on the RPLS homepage. You can view the events of RPLS, the State Library and the other systems all from this same calendar. After you register in L2 you will receive a weekly reminder of all the classes for which you have registered and an email telling you of new classes that have been added.

Remember the requirements for attending continuing education events were increased beginning July 2007. After that date each library must have staff attend continuing education events based on the formula of one (1) event per two (2) FTE on library staff. Beginning July 2009, the requirement will be one (1) event per FTE on library staff. Bring your staff to the RPLS Seminar, it is a great staff development day.
