System Standards: Resource Sharing

Read!

There is a committee working on a revision of the multitype Library System Standards. As the various standards are drafted, they are uploaded to WebJunction for comment by the Illinois Library Community. The Resource Sharing standard has now been posted to WebJunction.

To find the document, go to the WebJunction Illinois website.

  • Sign in. If you do not have a WebJunction account, create one.

  • Click on the tab at the top that says “Illinois Center,” then in the center of the page under Illinois Libraries click on “Library Systems” You will find the document under the “documents” tab. You are looking for the one titled Resource Sharing Standards -- Discussion Draft.

  • You may read the document online or print it out.

Comment!!!

Why should you submit comments? It is very important that all librarians, trustees, and library staff read these standards as they are drafted and comment on them. Once adopted, these are the standards RPLS must follow as we serve your library. Are they understandable? Do you feel they are too broad or too narrow to serve the needs of Illinois residents? Whatever your opinion of the standard, please post your comment to the committee.

To post a comment:

  • Click the discussion button next to the document button mentioned above.

  • Click on the Resource Sharing Standards thread.

  • Once there, click on “Reply” and type in your comments.

  • There is a preview option, and once you are satisfied with your post, click the” Save” button.

When you are at the Resource Sharing document page, there is also a place to post comments at the bottom of the page, just scroll down.

Christina Johnson from the North Suburban Library System wrote an article explaining this process with screen shots to gather comments on the Professional Development & Consulting Standard. If you prefer visual instructions on the process to post comments, read Christina’s article and substitute “Resource Sharing” for the words Professional Development.
