Library Card Sign-up Month

I always like this special month from ALA. It seems everyone can have some fun with it and at a perfect time of the year.

September is the month when school starts and when Library Card Sign-up is celebrated. ALA has press releases and graphics that can be used to promote this great event.

The honorary chair for Library Card Sign-up Month 2009 is basketball star Candace Parker. Parker, as you probably know, is an Olympic gold medalist, the WNBA’s reigning MVP, and the 2009 winner of the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Award. What a great role model for kids when they sign up for a library card.

The library card is the smartest card to have in your pocket. For a student the library card is the most important school supply that a parent could provide their child.

Do you know someone who does not have a library card? Just imagine what would happen if each of us found three people without a library card and encouraged them to sign-up for one. How many new card holders would we have?
