A Holiday Message
The Holiday Season is upon us. It is a time of hustle
and bustle, outlining or finishing projects at work, planning family holiday
festivities, shopping for presents, giving to charity, and thinking about
the New Year.
During the past few weeks, I have done each of the
things listed above. I have been working with the new Tri-City Public
Library District as they develop policies for the opening of a new library.
Planned the content for
Tech Plan
Tuesdays, and attended many meetings with a variety of groups all
working on various aspects of library service from the local to national
level. All are passionate about the work they do and strive for excellence.
I wish for you this season a passion for the work that you do and a feeling
of satisfaction when what you do makes a difference in the life of a child,
teen or adult.
Planning family holidays started early. My husband
and I will be celebrating later this month with a new grandson, Julian
Wayne Obert, who was born Dec. 5th weighing in at 7 lbs 11 oz and 22
inches. He was welcomed by a sister Kimberly, mom Suzanne and dad Chet. So
a trip to California is in the holiday plans. But before we go, there will
be a Christmas program at my church to play piano for, a Christmas Eve
service and a dinner with my husband and son Matt. May you all have great
and safe visits with your families and friends this year! Make some happy
memories, take a few pictures, and share some stories.
While I hate to shop, I have purchased a few presents and finally figured
out just what to buy for the husband who has everything!!. So shopping is
nearly done except for food for the Christmas dinner and that can wait for a
few more days. This holiday may all the presents given and received be done
with appreciation and love. Don’t forget the precious gift of your time, a
word of kindness, or a smile of encouragement.
Giving to Charity is something I try to do when I
can. This year I was tapped to be part of the
MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) Lock Up. I was able to raise $500
with the help of family, friends, and business acquaintances. Plus, I try
to put something in those red kettles of the Salvation Army when leaving
the grocery store. Put something in the next red kettle you pass.
The New Year is a time for reflecting on the past and
looking to the future. There have been many great times this past year,
and I have had the pleasure to work with the best staff and board. I don’t
know what the future holds this year, I never do. But I do know that the
coming year will be filled with many challenges. It is a new year, so
maybe it is time to do things in new ways, to embrace positive changes and
to stay passionate and true to the values that guide us in work and life.
