Tech Trends Fair

On Tuesday, November 11th,
2009, RPLS member librarians attended a Tech Trends Fair at Rolling
Prairie Library System headquarters. Representatives from Staples,
Decatur Public Library and Best Buy presented information on some of the latest technology. There were computer
technicians available to answer questions.

In the RPLS Board room, Kevin Wallace,
Sales Executive with Staples, and Blake, Geek Squad Representative
demonstrated the Sony book-reader, a flip-video camera, a digital camera
and a laptop with Windows 7.

In the RPLS Conference room Eleanor Wood,
Youth Services Librarian at Decatur Public Library, demonstrated the
setup and uses of a Wii and discussed how to go about planning a gaming
tournament at the library. |

Kent Leckrone, Home
Essentials Customer Specialist at Best Buy, shared information on ways
that patrons might use the library's Wifi and brought an Achos 5 and a
DSi (unopened due to strict policies), and finally a laptop to show
how a person could remotely access their own home server through the Wifi
at a library. |
