TRUSTEE BASICS: WHAT IS MY JOB WORKSHOPS WERE SUCCESSFULThe first two RPLS sponsored workshops for trustees have been held. They were very successful. A total of 31 people from 15 libraries attended these sessions. I encourage the trustees who attended the workshop to share what they learned with their fellow trustees at the next local board meeting. Remember all your handouts were on white paper to make copying and sharing easier. Don’t forget there are still three opportunities for you to attend a workshop. Just because the Per Capita requirement is for one trustee to attend one event does not mean that that is all you have to do. It is strongly suggested that different trustees attend each of these sessions and share it with fellow board members to gain maximum knowledge. Trustees and the Law—Open meetings Act and Freedom of Information Act Tuesday, March 21, 2006 @ Rolling Prairie Library System Headquarters, beginning at 7:00 PM Come at 6:30 and have a tour of the Rolling Prairie Library System Headquarters. Ms. Terry Mutchler from the Illinois Attorney Generals Office will present this program. With changes in the Open Meetings law, questions about closed sessions, and what is a Freedom of Information Request, it is imperative that trustees have an understanding of the law and how to accurately apply it. Budgets and Buildings for Trustees Saturday April 29 @ the Chatham Area PLD beginning at 9:30 a.m. Speaker: Bev Obert. Budgets and Buildings for Trustees Saturday May 6 @ the Shelbyville Public Library beginning at 9:30 a.m. Speaker: Bev Obert. The Budget process will be reviewed for trustees with some practical tips on how to keep track of the calendar and not miss any deadlines. Many libraries are also looking at remodeling, expanding, adding to or building new library structures. A presentation of the steps in this process will be given. Trustees may register for one or all of the training sessions through the RPLS CLeO. There is no charge for any these sessions.
