ALEX RIDER FINDS HIS WAY TO THE BIG SCREEN

The hot news in turning children's books into feature movies is that Stormbreaker (the first book of six (so far) in the New York Times best selling Alex Rider series, will be made into one of the biggest independent movies in recent years-at more than $40 million.

A world-wide search for the child-actor to play Alex Rider has commenced and filming is due to start on July 4. Bob and Harvey Weinstein have taken the North American rights, the first film for their new company, The Weinstein Company. Anthony Horowitz has just done a string of interviews from Cannes including Reuters and the BBC.

They said his uncle died in an accident, but when fourteen-year-old orphan Alex finds his uncle's car riddled with bullet holes, he knows it was no accident. And once he finds out that his uncle was on a secret mission, there is no turning back. (from BWI eNewsletter, May 31, 2005)
