Prairie News March 17, 2001 Hope Welty (Cerro Gordo) Public Library District Exhibits Policy: Occasionally, exhibits from sources within the community may be allowed in the library. All exhibits considered for space within the library must support the mission of the library and not cause disruption of the regular flow of library work and service. Such exhibits will remain in place for not longer than four weeks with the setup and removal being the responsibility of the exhibitor. THe library assumes no liability for damage or loss relating to any exhibit set up for public viewing in the library, and will take no extraordinary measures to insure its safety. (8/97) Lincoln Library (Springfield) Policy on Distribution of Free Materials/Community Information: Handouts and Bulletin Boards: It is the policy of Lincoln Library, as part of its information mission, to provide access to free materials/community information through the distribution of free handouts or the public posting of flyers, notices, and posters. Lincoln Library shall determine where this information will be distributed in the library. Materials are limited to those of a civic, cultural, educational, and/or recreational nature. Materials from for-profit groups, companies, organizations, or individuals will not be accepted. Distribution or posting of materials by the library does not indicate the library's endorsement of the issues or events promoted by those materials. Because the library wishes to give access to as much community information as possible, posters and flyers and notices will be displayed for one month only; handouts will be displayed for as long as space permits and their information is timely. When space is limited, preference will be given to information about Lincoln Library and other SPringfield organizations. Persons wishing to distribute or post information must submit that information to the library's Public Relations Office which is responsible for stocking the information racks and keeping bulletin boards current. Info which has not been approved will be destroyed. Final approval of information materials rests with the library director. Literature Related to Campaigns for Public Office: As part of its responsibility to help inform the public, Lincoln Library will provide a display area for distribution of informational literature related to campaigns for public office one month in advance of election day. Petitioning or Distribution of LIterature in Libraries: In the library, it is the policy of Lincoln Library that petitioning, solicitation, or distribution of literature or leaflets, canvassing, or similar types of appeals by members of the public are not allowed in the library. (June 28, 1995) Lincoln Library (Springfield) Policy on Public Exhibits: Lincoln Library currently has four spaces devoted to the display of artwork and informational materials that go beyond the scope of the library's "Policy on the Distribution of Free Materials/Communty Information," the latter being limited to posters, flyers, notices and handouts. The library's exhibit spaces include art panels in Art & Recreation, two glass cases outside the Sangamon Valley Collection and window cases at our North and West Branch Libraries. Library exhibits are limited to those which are civic, cultural, educational, and/or recreational in nature. Providing exhibit space in the library does not imply endorsement by the library staff or board of trustees of ideas presented by the exhibitor. In general, the space in Arts & Recreation is reserved for exhibits of painting, illustrations, photographs, crafts, and other arts or library related subjects. The cases near the Sangamon Valley Collection are devoted to exhibits related to area history or library concerns. The display windows at the branch libraries may be used to showcase any of the aforementioned materials. Persons wishing to display such items/information at the library should contact the library's Public Relations Office which will refer them to the staff person in charge of scheduling exhibits. Lincoln Library reserves the right to deny exhibit space based on the above criteria. |
