Description: School librarians need to know the
importance of having an up to date selection policy and its basic
components. After completing this workshop, staff should be able to
identify the parts of a selection policy: goals, responsibilities,
criteria, procedures, miscellaneous items being considered such as gifts,
controversial materials, reconsideration policies, and complaint
procedures. In addition steps and procedures to get these policies adopted
will be covered. Sample selection and reconsideration policies will be
included.
Learning Objectives: 1. Review the parts of a
materials selection policy. 2. Develop a selection policy for individual
school/district. 3. Learn to use online resources to help you with
collection development.
