Date: Wednesday, August 13, 2003 Description: MarcoPolo is a partnership between the MarcoPolo Education Foundation and seven renowned educational organizations, the MarcoPolo: Internet Content for the Classroom program provides no-cost, standards-based Internet content, developed by the nation's content experts for the K-12 teacher and classroom. Resources found on the MarcoPolo Web site (http://www.marcopolo-education.org ) and the seven Partner Web sites offer librarians invaluable educational resources, and the MarcoPolo Education Foundation offers free training, across the country, so that librarians learn how to use this rich content with their classroom teachers daily. This program gives librarians the skills necessary to use the Internet as a teaching resource, teaching partner, and teaching tool. The IOES and RPLS extend this invitation to library educators who believe that Internet content is an integral part of learning an who are willing to share MarcoPolo with their colleagues through awareness and/or training. Learning Objectives: To provide hands-on experience in working with Internet Content for the Classroom. To model effective strategy for teaching with Internet Content for the Classroom. To examine the criteria for quality Internet Content for the Classroom that meets teacher's needs To explore Internet Content For The Classroom at each web site. To outline different types of Internet content and different strategies for integrating Internet Content For The Classroom. To explore the use of Internet Content For The Classroom in core subject areas across the curriculum To gain hands-on experience developing standards-based lesson plans using Internet Content For The Classroom. To examine factors that have an impact on practical mechanics of teaching with Internet Content For The Classroom. To gain experience in preparing an Internet Content For The Classroom-based lesson plan for presentation in a variety of classroom settings. To exchange ideas for coping with class preparation and classroom management issues connected with the use of Internet-equipped classroom computers.
