Section 20 - Cataloging Videos

            These fields are already inserted for you, so leave them be:

            Enter the following fixed fields as instructed below:

                                    Run t (Run time) (RA) - enter the number of minutes the total video runs, if you know it.  Enter only numbers (i.e. 030 or 120), nothing else.  Field can accommodate up to 999.  If length is not known, use --- (3 dashes).

                                    Accomp m (Accompanying matter) (O) - leave blank if there are no accompanying materials.  Other possible responses are:

                                                                        1  (stills)

                                                                        m (script material)

                                                                        o  (posters)

                                                                        r   (instructional materials)

                                                                        s  (a score)

                                                            z  (types of accompanying matter that do not fit any of the above categories)

 

                                    Mat t (Type of material) -- always enter v for videorecording.

                                    Tech (Technique) (O) -- leave blank if you do not wish to indicate the recording technique.

                                                            Possible responses are:

                                                            a  (for animation)

                                                            c  (for a combination of animation and live action)

                                                            l   (for live action)

                                                            Be sure to record the technique in the 500 (notes) field also if you use this fixed field.

 

VARIABLE FIELDS:

 

Follow the general rules from your monographs manual for these fields.  Any exceptions will be noted here:

 

020;      ISBN

099;      Delete this field -- we may use it later.

245;      Title -- leave the subfield h as it is.  It is a required field.

260;      Imprint

300;      Physical description -- Default information is provided for you.  Change number of videocassettes if appropriate, remove sd and/or col if it is not true.

538;      Use 500 because Gateway doesn’t acknowledge it.

500;      Use for general notes.  Use other 5xx fields for specialized fields.

511;      Participants or performers.  This can be used for featured players, performers, narrators, or presenters who appear on screen.  May also include the role played.

                                                511; 1  ; a Tom Cruise (Dracula), Michael Keaton (Batman).

                        First indicator

                                                1 cast (as in cast member)

                                                0 all others

508;      Participant or individual who have participated in the artistic or technical production (e.g. director, producer, screenplay).

520;      Summary, abstract or annotation notes.

6xx;      Use subject headings as discussed in monograph manual, but make sure the x video recordings that was included for you is the final subfield, h.

700;      Added, searchable, entry for participants, directors, or producers of note.  Only use if you feel they are well enough known that one would search under that name.  Same rules as for monographs.

246;      Added titles -- same rules as for monographs.
