As of May 4th, the Illinois State Library has requested that all libraries take time this spring to review and, if necessary, update their records in Every Library in ILLINET (ELI)
by updating through
L2. It is vital for the information to be up-to-date, since it is used by the State Library for correspondence, contracts, and other administrative purposes as well as for inquiries by the General Assembly and constitutional officers. It is also important that members of the public have the most accurate information about libraries.
Q) Should I review all the information about my library? I know it
hasn't changed. A) Yes, definitely! Please review the names,
addresses, phone numbers, URL's, and the library hours. Many people
depend on this information for calling, writing or visiting your
library. If the information is incorrect, including names of
previous staff members, important communications may be misdirected.
Please remove staff and/or trustees that are no longer with your
library, and please be sure to add new staff and new trustees.
Visitors may end up sitting in your parking lot for hours waiting for
you to open on a day when you are really closed. Keeping the basic
information fresh indicates that your library is a welcoming place.
Q) How do I access my library’s ELI record?
A) You no longer have direct access to your ELI record. All changes
must be made by certifying your library's information in
L2. If you need help with any of
those things, call, (217) 429-2586, or email one of the RPLS
consultants. (Doris,
Louise, or
Rachel) We
have access to L2 and can look it up for you.
Q) I’m having problems getting my log in and password to work.
What am I doing wrong?
A) L2 allows you to request a lost of forgotten password. If you do
not receive the email, check your spam folder. If it still is not there,
contact
RPLS
and have your password reset. Be sure to tell what you want your new
password to be.
Q) Why does my school district have more than one account?
A) School districts have a login and password for the district and
different logins and passwords for each building with a library. Make
sure that each individual building record is updated with accurate
information. Check the district record to make sure that the
superintendent and other district-wide information is correct, but most
information will be located on the individual building records. If you
need help with this please contact
RPLS.
Q) My public library has more than one building. What about ELI
records for the branch libraries?
A) In L2
a person affiliates with all the libraries that they work in. To do this
edit your profile in L2
by clicking your name once you are logged in. Click on edit profile.
Click the edit button next to Libraries and add the other libraries to
which you are affiliated.
Q) How do I certify in L2?
A) Follow these steps.
-
Please click on the Certify link/icon
on the L2 site from May 4 through May 29. You will only see this if
you are logged on to L2 and are director of the library.
-
It is very important that the library
director for each library update this information. By May 29th.
You must have an account in L2 to be able to update your records. If
you do not have an account below are the steps to acquiring an
account.
Q) How do I get an L2
account?
A) Follow these steps.
-
Go to
http://www.librarylearning.info
-
In
the upper right hand corner is a link to
Register,
please click on the link.
-
Fill
out the form, making sure to affiliate with RPLS and your library. If
you have more than one library, be sure to affiliate with all your
libraries.
-
Within
24-48 hours, if you are the director of the library, you should be
elevated to the director, which will give you access to the
Certification button which you will need to “certify” your libraries
for ELI.
-
If
you logon to L2 and do not see the “Certify” button, please contact
Doris McKay,
dorism@rpls.ws,
to get your logon elevated to director status.
You may look at the
ELI information, but will not be
able to change any of that information without logging on to L2. All changes to library
information must now be done through L2. If you already have an L2 account, but are not seeing the
“Certify” button when you log on to L2, contact Doris McKay,
dorism@rpls.ws,
to get your logon elevated to director status.
