Eighty-eight years later, the award continues, with When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead as the most recent winner. SCHOOL LIBRARY
PROFILE SHEET
School libraries are required to return a school library profile sheet to RPLS by June 15 of each year. This form summarizes the school year we are completing and provides basic information about your library. Unlike other forms that are submitted as a district, each building is required to return the profile sheet. The form is available on the RPLS website. Print out a copy, fill it out, and return to Rachel Miller at RPLS before June 15.

TRAVELING LIBRARIANS GO TO LUNCH Are you a school librarian that travels between libraries? Does your location change depending on the time of day or day of the week? Do you worry about “auto-pilot” taking you to the wrong place on the wrong day? Here’s a chance to network with others that perform the same juggling act you do. Swap stories, share solutions, and maybe even learn tips to remember which school you are headed to! Traveling Librarians Go to Lunch will meet on Tuesday, June 15 at 11:30 am at Mario's North. Lunch is dutch treat. There is a lunch buffet, or you may order off the menu. Please be sure to register in L2 because Rachel will make reservations based on that number.

GRAPHIC NOVEL
OVERVIEW Scholastic has published a graphic novel discussion guide that is available online as a free download. Using Graphic Novels with Children and Teens: A Guide for Teachers and Librarians provides an overview of what a graphic novel is, how it is a valuable tool for literacy, and addresses some common concerns with using graphic novels in a school. This discussion guide could be a valuable tool in talking with classroom teachers and administrators, as well as a good basic guide for the librarian. Be sure to scroll through to the end of the guide and find the list of additional graphic novel resources.

SUMMER SLIDE Both school and public librarians make an effort this time of year to spread the word about summer slide, that loss of reading skills that can occur from lack of practice in the summer. Maria Salvadore recently posted about summer slide on her blog Page by Page. Maria, a children’s literature expert for Reading Rockets, takes a fun look at how families can use books with recipes included in the story to extend the experience. Be sure to click on her link to “research”, a valuable list of resources and reports documenting the value of summer reading.
