Paving the Road

The Illinois State Curriculum Center received $1654 to provide a one-day bus trip to several libraries at the University of Illinois.  Funds will be used to cover the costs of the bus trip.

Below is the publicity notice for the bus trip:

Join area librarians on Tuesday, September 25, for a field trip to the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign.  We will leave Springfield on a tour bus from White Oaks Mall in Springfield at 8:00 a.m. and from Hickory Point Mall in Forsyth at 9:00 a.m..  In the morning, we will tour the new Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences Library and the Grainger Engineering Library.  After having a box lunch in the conference room of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS), we will hear brief presentations in the high-tech lecture hall from staff representing the GSLIS, the Center for Children's Books, Illinois Library Computer Systems Organization (ILCSO), and the Information Systems Research Labs, all located in the new GSLIS building.  We will have a special guest speaker, Allen Renear, a GSLIS faculty member who is familiar with new technologies such as e-books, e-paper, and e-ink and how these technologies will affect the future of print books.  Following the presentations, we will have time to tour the GSLIS building and everyone will be able to go to the area that most interests them.  We will leave Champaign at 3:00 p.m. stopping in Forsyth at 4:00 p.m. and arriving in Springfield at 5:00 p.m..
