Staff Profiles

Joan Bauer is the Computer System Assistant. Joan  has her M.S. in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois. She is married to Kim Bauer (a familiar name to Lincoln aficionados) and has two children.

Sue Byers is the Computer System Assistant and has worked for RPLS since 1988. Sue assists Terry by handling the policy files, calendars, and reports. She has an A.A.S. in Computer Information Systems (Network Management). Sue has three children and four grandchildren. Her hobbies include sewing and gardening.

Peggy Durst is the Executive Assistant for Rolling Prairie. She is married to Steve and they have three children --Andrew, Meghan and Charles. She loves to read, make scrapbooks and sew, although weekends usually find her at home attempting to climb Mt. Washmore.

Louise Greene is a Consultant for Public and Special Libraries. She received an M.L.S. from the University of Maryland and was, most recently, head of the reference department at an academic library. Her professional interests include research on patron use of services and virtual reference consortia. Returning to Decatur - her hometown - after many years of living on the West, East and Gulf Coasts, she is excited to part of the Illinois library community. She has three children and is interested in gardening, travel, and art.

Chris Janvrin is in charge of Maintenance for RPLS. He has been with the system since 1999. He is in charge of janitorial services, maintenance of the building and vehicles, and helps with sorting. He is married with two children. His hobbies include sports.

Doris McKay is the Consultant/Webmaster for RPLS. She is responsible for the Continuing Education program, the Prairie News, the webpages and consulting with the Academic Libraries. She has a B.S. in Mathematics with a Physical Science minor from the University of Michigan, an M.S. in Human Development Counseling from Sangamon State (University of Illinois at Springfield) and an M.S. in Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Jo McLain is the LLSAP (Local Library System Automation Project) Manager for RPLS. She is responsible for the RPLS Next Generation Integrated Library System. Jo was formerly the RPLS Reference Librarian and Assistant Automation Consultant. She has an A.A.S. in Electronics from Richland Community College, a B.A. in English from Eastern Illinois University, and an M.S. in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Rachel Miller is School/Youth Services Consultant for RPLS. She is responsible for Let’s Get It All Together and consulting with schools and the youth services areas of public libraries. Rachel has a Bachelor in Library Science with a minor in English from Illinois State University and a MS in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is married and has two children.

Terry Moreland is Rolling Prairie’s Computer System Coordinator. She has worked for the system since 1981. She is the key operator for the LLSAP computer system, and is responsible for file management, trouble-shooting, canned reports, and software updates. Terry has earned college credit. She has been married to Vic (RPLS driver) for over 35 years, has two children, Amy and Matt, three granddaughters, Madison, Riley and Kailey, and one grandson, Steven. Terry’s hobbies include enjoying her grandchildren, watching old mystery movies, reading mysteries, and cooking for large family get-togethers.

Bev Obert is the Executive Director for RPLS. She has worked at RPLS since 1994. She has a B.A. in music education, emphasis in percussion, from Western Illinois University, and a M.S. in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a member of ALA, ILA, PLA, AASL, and ISLMA. She is married to Mike and has two sons, Chet, a Lieutenant  in the U.S. Navy, and Matt who has a degree in  electrical engineering at  and an MBA, both from SIU-Carbondale. Her hobbies include music, reading, church choir and clown troop, needlepoint, counted cross-stitch, and crafts.

Michael J. Szymkoski is Chief Fiscal Officer for Rolling Prairie. He joined the staff in 1999. His duties include financial management of the library system. He has an A.S. in accounting from Richland Community College, and a B.S. in accounting from Millikin University. He is a certified public accountant in Illinois, and is a certified management accountant. He is a member of AICPS, IL CPA Society, and ICMA. Mike has two sons, Brent and Jeffery. He enjoys baseball, hockey, reading, and traveling.

Angela Thompson is Consulting Assistant for RPLS. She has been with the system since Aug 2000. Angela has a B.S. in Office Administration from Bob Jones University and Library Technical Assistant certification from College of Dupage. Her hobbies include reading, swimming, and horses.
